Hi @20281003352203 did you mean to post this?
17:17
Sorry see the edit!
17:18
Sorry was an incomplete question
17:18
It depends on the subject; if you think it’s going to be relevant to discuss with the entire community and it’s not a specific topic that belongs somewhere else like the AI channel, you can share it here.
17:18
Yeah it's my new article on AI that I've worked on for a long time, that explains exactly how it works and provides a systems understanding (philosophy, sciences, math, economics, entrepreneurship, society) on what one can do with it
17:21
So this may be a bit off topic…. As part of my various activities, I mentor startups in a few specialized verticals. I’ve recently seen an increased number of founders who believe they’ve developed something so novel that it’s worth patenting. Some of them burning hours and cash to try to get a provisional patent. When scratching the surface, I discover that it’s “novel because {insert favorite GenAI tool} thought so, and I could not find it on Google Patents”. Put aside all the red flags and concerns about that line of reasoning; it strikes me that this is likely not limited to the handful I’m mentoring. I’m curious if there are any folks closer to the patent process (attorneys, PTO offices, etc…) who have also seen an uptick. I’m also curious whether this is creating further delays in the patent review process.
17:29
If it is an article you wrote yourself please use @[email protected]
17:32
I've read on Reddit for Patent Examiners that some Patent attorneys submit unsuccessful patent applications written by genAI, which does cause delays and frustration.
17:34
Don’t go there, stop spamming us!
21:20
Please move legitimate AI discussion to @[email protected] but note that that isn’t the place to advertise or self-promote

I skimmed the Group description for the general interest group, I think maybe it could list the specialized groups' topics /names for examples as to what topics are relevant to HIT but not really appropriate for General Discussion group chat (e.g. list specialized groups as addendum to item #2 in the Description)
13:01
I mean the article covers multiple subjects from AI to the job market to the hiring factors - including mentioning how Harvard as a qualifier is becoming more important than ever as AI allows candidates to fake their skills and experience.
13:10
That’s fine; my suggestion was just that - a suggestion. I don’t have time to read the full article right now and since there wasn’t context and it had AI mentioned and I assumed you shared it because it was discussion-worthy, I suggested a channel that would best lead to discussion (based on the emphasis on AI). It sounds like you don’t think that is the case, which is fine. I do ask that you please, in the future, share context such as thoughts or questions with the article so I and other community members have context on why you think this is relevant to the 600+ folks in this channel and can engage appropriately.
13:13
The context you just shared as a follow up is great!
13:14
Sorry, didn’t mean to come off defensive. Writing, unfortunately, does not communicate tone well. I was adding the remark, not to push back, but to add the context you called out and requested. I don’t candidly know the right place to drop an article that bridges multiple pillars which is why I went with general.
13:19
Thanks Daniel and sorry I misunderstood. I appreciate that context 🙏 that is a valid approach and seems very reasonable, thanks for your thoughtfulness here.

Any Harvard alum in Orange County? Seeking to expand my friend group and network. https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarahjmwang
00:27
There is a good H4A SoCal group with quite a few people in OC.
00:30
I would love to join it too. Can you share the link please?
00:42
Harvard alum in OC, happy to connect with other HIT members in OC . Here is the link :https://hcsc.clubs.harvard.edu/index.html
00:55
I live in LA county and sometimes attend events in OC. The SoCal group is good. https://www.linkedin.com/in/kentjoshi/
00:57
My wife and I are both HBS '23 in Venice, if you ever come to Westside LA
01:03
Cool! Maybe we can attend events together.
01:05
Yeah, it’d be cool! Which places do you recommend?
01:05
If a LA or LA/OC channel starts, please include me, as I am impacted by the fire and seek to relocate. Thanks.
01:56
City channels at this point should all be open for anyone already in the community to join. The main thing we’d need to open LA/OC channel is finding volunteers (ideally at least 3) willing to help moderate and manage that channel.

Hi all! We’d like to bring on folks to a digital health project, where we would create an interactive online survey for ~10k MS patients and run an AI engine to generate insights. The long-term mission behind is to use those insights to lead to a cure in MS
